Imagine a bio-sourced material capable of competing with concrete or steel, while reducing carbon footprints by 80%. It's now possible thanks to Woodoo, the pioneer of augmented wood. In 2025, the startup is accelerating with major industrial contracts and large-scale commercialization. Discover the latest financial and industrial advances that are transforming this French deeptech into a key player in low-carbon building.
About Woodoo: wood transformed for the future
Founded in 2017 by Timothée Boitouzet, Woodoo transforms wood (such as low-value poplar) via a patented molecular process: lignin is replaced by biobased polymers to create an ultra-strong, translucent and durable composite material. This augmented wood - including its flagship product STACK™ - can replace concrete, steel or aluminum in structural and architectural applications. This innovation is at the heart of the mission to decarbonize construction and industrial design.
Financial data and progress to 2025
June 2025, Woodoo signed a €32 million industrial contract with Bouygues Constructionfor the supply of 10,000 m³ of STACK™the equivalent of 20,000 m³ of reinforced concrete - the equivalent of five Olympic-sized swimming pools. This agreement consolidates the technological transformation into a large-scale operational project.
According to Timothée Boitouzet, "STACK™ proves that we can achieve economic parity with reinforced concrete within three years with just 10,000 m³", while combining performance, durability and competitiveness.
This key signing follows a strategic fund-raising of 31 M (approximately €28-31 M) in 2023, led by Lowercarbon Capitalwhich enabled Woodoo to industrialize its technology and structure its long-circuit model.
Future projects and ambitions
- Reinforced industrialization Woodoo is implementing a "fabless" approach, setting up its processes in local sawmills to produce STACK™ close to the raw materials. The Aube plant has already enabled annual production of 14,000 m³, and staff numbers are set to double to 80 employees by the end of 2025.
- Deployment in construction Beyond data centers, STACK™ material is being targeted at industrial, tertiary and public buildings. Structural projects including facades or vertical structures in augmented wood are envisaged.
- Awards and recognition Woodoo was honored at theEnerJ-Meeting 2025winning the grand prize for its low-carbon innovations for tomorrow's construction.
Thanks to a successful contract with Bouygues Construction and a clear commitment to industrialization, Woodoo transforms its sustainable ambitions into concrete reality. With STACK™, the company achieves large-scale proof of concept and proves that wood can become a credible structural alternative to concrete. Between rising financial strength, ambitious industrial projects and growth in ecological impact, Woodoo confirms its position as France's leading deeptech for responsible construction.
